Is hempseed oil safe during pregnancy?

Is hempseed oil safe during pregnancy?

We get this question a lot, and rightfully so. There are so many products you shouldn’t use during pregnancy, but there are some that are very beneficial when pregnant or breastfeeding.

The simple answer is yes, you can use hempseed oil if you're pregnant, but of course, always consult your doctor first if you have any concerns.  Hempseed oil is a fantastic supplement for pregnant women; as well as adding it to your diet, you can use it on your skin all throughout pregnancy, especially if you’re finding that this is a time when your skin definitely needs a bit of extra TLC.

Hempseed oil comes from the small seed of the Cannabis Sativa plant. The seeds do not contain the same level of compounds as the plant itself, but they still have a rich profile of nutrients, fatty acids, and amazing bioactive compounds. When pregnant and breastfeeding, avoid CBD, THC, or marijuana in any form. However, you are safe when using hempseed oil!

If you're wondering what other skincare ingredients to avoid while pregnant, here is a list of things we recommend staying away from:

Retin-A, Retinol, and Retinyl Palmitate · Tazorac and Accutane  ·  Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic acids · Essential Oils ·  Hydroquinone · Aluminum chloride  ·  Formaldehyde · Chemical Sunscreens

As always, consult your OBGYN or dermatologist before you use any skincare product you are unsure of. If you have any other skincare questions, send us a DM on Instagram!
