How To Prep Your Skin For Halloween

How To Prep Your Skin For Halloween

Scary movies, haunted houses, and costumes aren’t the only thing scary about this time of year. One of the most crucial things about this spooky season is that special effects makeup can take a toll on our delicate skin, so you need to know how to prep your skin and how to take care of it after all the late-night fun!

We all love Halloween makeup and the creative things you can do with it, but a lot of makeup brands we use specifically for special effects makeup take into little consideration of our skin's health and how its use can impact our complexion. Costume makeup is typically thick, waxy, and has a greasy texture to it with the purpose of holding throughout the long night. While this is great for Halloween makeup, we need to keep in mind what it is doing to our skin underneath!

How To Prep Skin Before Applying Heavy Makeup
Before you apply your Halloween makeup, it is important to start with a clean base! Start with double cleansing your face to remove any excess oil or dirt on your skin. If you have oily skin, simply dab a small amount of salicylic acid, which can help remove any remaining surface oil.

If you are not applying special effects makeup and doing a simpler makeup look for the night after cleansing, apply a primer! This will fill your pores and prevent them from being clogged with that thick Halloween makeup.

Removing Halloween Makeup
After getting home super late, you may just want to jump into bed and fall asleep, but you should never do that to your skin!! If your makeup is thicker and you got it from a special effects Halloween store, there may be latex removers that come with it. Even if your makeup didn’t include any high-level makeup, you should still double cleanse to make sure there are no lingering products still sitting on your skin. A little tip is if you're wearing eye makeup, remove it with Vaseline! It will melt off the skin without damaging your fragile eyelids as makeup removal wipes do.

Skincare After Removing Makeup
All we can say is hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! After removing your spooky makeup and gently cleansing, grab your exfoliator. We recommend using high maintenance peeling mask; apply a generous amount to damp skin. Continuously massage with a circular motion for several minutes to remove impurities and dull surface skin. Rinse thoroughly with a cloth for a smooth finish. Now onto hydrating your skin! Use high expectations facial oil formulated with hempseed oil, bioflavonoids, and pure essential plant oils, high® delivers the high-powered benefits of hemp, to protect with potent antioxidants, balance with adaptogens, soothe, hydrate, and replenish.

Now that you're all prepped for Halloween, go have some fun and stay safe! If you have any skincare questions or need more tips on how to prep your skin for Halloween, send us a DM on Instagram!
